6 Traditional Delicacies You Must Prepare on Diwali

 

Diwali is around the corner and all of us are preparing for the festival of lights in full swing. Just like Diwali parties are incomplete without card games, the celebrations are also lacking without traditional sweets and delicacies. We are just eagerly waiting to indulge in the lip-smacking sweets.

1.Puri

Soft and fluffy round puris made of wheat flour are deep-fried in ghee. The ingredients used in preparing the dough are wheat flour, ghee, and warm water. Sometimes spices like carom seeds and dried fenugreek are also mixed in the dough while kneading to add a rich, spicy flavour to puris. The soft and non-sticky dough is rolled into round puris that are fried in ghee or oil on high flame. Golden puffed-up puris served with aloo sabzi is a heavenly combo!

 

2.Rice Kheer

A quintessential Indian pudding made by boiling rice in milk and sugar until a thick and creamy consistency is achieved. To uplift the flavours, kheer is also infused with a mix of dry fruits and cardamom powder. Many variations of kheer are prepared across India like payasam and phirni. These twisted tales of traditional rice kheer are made with lentils and jaggery which makes them healthier.

 

3.Mohanthal

Mohanthal is a simple yet mouth-watering Gujarati delicacy. You should try making this sweet during this Diwali to impress your guests. It’s a healthy and tasty dessert option for the festive season, especially for children. The melt-in-the-mouth texture of besan flour when lightly toasted in ghee makes it rich and flavourful. 4.Kalakand

Kalakand is a round-the-year mithai, you can find it in every sweet shop! The popularity rises highly during the festive season. Crumbly fresh paneer (cottage cheese) when blended with sugar, saffron, milk powder, and cardamom powder gives a divine taste. All you need to do is combine all the ingredients and cook for a while until you get a thick consistency. To make it instantly you can microwave the mixture, this milky mithai would be ready in minutes.

 

5.Besan Ladoo

Small perfectly rounded doses of sweetness, that is our way of introducing Besan ladoos. Commonly served at every Indian wedding and festival, these are a mix of besan (chickpea flour), ghee, and sugar. Yes, that’s it! It involves only three ingredients and is quick to prepare even last-minute. Cook besan in ghee until it gets a lightish-dark colour, you will fall in love with the aroma produced during this stage. Add sugar and dry fruits of your liking in the end. When the mix cools down, press it into smooth round ladoos. They are so easy!

 

6.Milk Halwa

Milk Halwa is also known as Paal Halwa in southern India, prepared with milk, sugar, and cardamom powder. It’s a must-try dish on special occasions and festivals for your friends & family, we are sure they will all love it! All you need to do is simmer milk with sugar until it thickens. And garnish with almonds to enhance the flavours. Serve warm or chill in the refrigerator as required.
